2012 Kid Icarus Handprinted Art Calendar

Friday, November 25th, 2011

Hi everyone! 2011 is coming to a close and a new year is peaking through. Kid Icarus, a local shop specializing in hand-made goods and a great supporter of the art community, will be releasing a limited edition hand-printed calendar for 2012!

I was asked to contribute my month of choice (January: one of the nippiest here in Canada). A little teaser of it:

Details

“On Sunday December 4th 2011, our highly anticipated 2012 Handprinted Calendar will be available for sale at our storefront in Kensington Market. You can also pick up an early copy at Handmade Holiday, Saturday December 3rd, St. Stephen-in-the-Fields. The calendar is a limited edition of 125 copies, with only 100 available for sale at $80 each.

If you are unfamiliar with the project, the concept is to take 12 artists and produce a calendar with each artist choosing one month to illustrate and only two colours to pull it off. There are no guidelines on layout or how the information is presented, the artist has full control. The entire calendar is screen printed by hand from the cover, right through to the backing.”

Calendars will be available for sale at Kid Icarus, and other locations (TBA).

Some architecture this time: a building at University of Toronto. So many windows!

Work in Progress

Thought I’d include a couple progress shots. As always, I start with a black and white contour drawing done in ink, import to Photoshop and color away! A few filters and color adjustments later, you get the end result.

“Everyday Things” #2

The series continues! I’m having a lot of fun with experimenting with colors and not being afraid to really crank up the vibrancy.

This one merges two drawings to make a super chaotic, barely decipherable image.

“Everyday Things” #1

Monday, August 29th, 2011

I’ve been in the middle of heavily cutting down my portfolio to add a new series! “Everyday Things” takes my ordinary sketchbook contour drawings and injects some life into them with vibrant colors.
