In the Studio

Sunday, May 16th, 2010

For some reason I always seem to choose my studio classes to be bright and early at 8:30 in the morning. Without some caffeine, my drawings tend to be sluggish and completely unsatisfying. I have a love-hate relationship with charcoal so I generally go with pencil work when I can get away with it.

Here are a few more polished drawings done during studio time (by the way it was a pain and a half to try to document something that’s atleast 18×24).

I’ll be continuing life drawing this summer with the playful models of Dr. Sketchy’s and some open classes at OCAD. Oh and a convenient “volunteer” model, wink.

Oatmeal Sketches

Monday, February 22nd, 2010

White is gross. Atleast when it comes to sketchbook paper. With the exception of cheapo paper, I like to draw on tinted or warm off-white surfaces whenever I can find it in blank book form.

My sketchbook with tantalizing oatmeal pages has been poorly neglected lately in favour of my hand*book for the current contour drawings I’ve been doing. Still, here are a few drawings from months ago I’ve been meaning to post:

Fake White Roses

Saturday, October 24th, 2009

Here is a still life drawing I worked on last week. It’s a small copper vase filled with fake white roses infront of a drapery backdrop. But hey, I thought: why not add a spoon. A damp spoon.

This drawing was done in graphite (B – 5B) on letter-size paper. And as per usual, a behind the scenes look:
